The two-minute rule

The two-minute rule

The students who improve fastest are almost never the ones doing an hour on a Sunday. They are the ones doing two minutes, most days, on one specific thing.

Two minutes is short enough that you cannot talk yourself out of it. Pick the bar you keep fluffing, set a timer, and stop when it goes off even if it is going well.

This month's study

The scale study in G major. It looks harder than it is: eight notes, one sharp, and the only real work is keeping it even.

  • Bars 1–4 only, to start
  • Sixty per cent speed
  • Count out loud, every time
